Professor Heather DeShon (SMU), An Eruptive History of Mt Somma-Vesuvius

The AD 79 eruption of Mt. Vesuvius continues to capture our imaginations, but modern Vesuvius is only the tip of a more complex volcanic region with its own rich earth history.  The talk provides an overview of the evolution of hazard and the ongoing risk associated with the Mt. Somma-Vesuvius volcanic system, placing the 79 AD eruption in its context.
